Hello, everyone, and welcome to the November episode of the Therapy Spot with Dr. Susan Reyland. Susan is a clinical and developmental psychologist with a practice here in Denver, as well as a fellow Internal Family Systems practitioner. She’s been a guest on my show several times, discussing topics such as attachment styles, resiliency, childhood development and the autonomic nervous system.

On this episode, listen as we discuss how poor communication is really about deregulation. Catch yourself dysregulated and wait and your system will return to calm. Just like when we are hungry we eat and then are system returns to a neutral state of not being hungry. Guess what? 9 out of 10 couples entering therapy say the same thing to their new therapist: “We can’t communicate — help us!” This podcast will help you be a better communicator and connect better with your partner. If we wait, our dysregulated nervous system will regulate. I will include my infographic, on taking an adult timeout, to give you something to read while you’re waiting!
