Cece SkyesThis week I interviewed Cece Sykes, an IFS trainer and therapist with over 30 years of experience. We discussed getting “stuck” in behaviors that feel good in the moment…but which we know don’t help us get what we really want out of life.

Feeling conflicted is a normal part of life, and can lead to the sensation of being “stuck.” We become overwhelmed and frustrated as our “manager” parts struggle to keep us functioning and stable, while our “distractor” parts take up behaviors that are often misguided attempts to fulfill our unmet needs.

Behaviors like this include:

  • Overeating
  • Drinking too much
  • Overspending
  • Having an affair

And so on.

What can we do to help ourselves when we get “stuck” ? What role do Self Compassion and Curiosity play in the process of living authentically and making choices from responding, not by reacting? Join us on the podcast as we discuss those things and more.

I really enjoyed speaking with Cece not only because she knowledgeable, trained, and experienced in thinking about our inner world through the IFS lens, but also because of what an energetic and connecting person she is.

Cece will also be hosting a retreat for therapists in California this upcoming September 7-11th. It will be an opportunity for therapists to listen to their own stories and bring awareness to the milestones in their own lives.
