I talked to couples therapist and Internal Family Systems (IFS) trainer Toni Herbine-Blank about how couples can create lasting intimacy in a relationship.
Here are a couple of tidbits from the podcast:
- You can tell your partner the truth, without harming them
- You can embrace the differences in your relationship, instead of feeling threatened by them
- You can resolve conflict by taking the step of learning about yourself first
- Being Calm during a disagreement doesn’t mean going numb
Toni’s podcast is rich with ideas for couples. She’s co-authored a book about her curriculum, Intimacy from the Inside Out: Courage and Compassion in Couple Therapy along with her coauthors Donna M. Kerpelman and Martha Sweezy. It’s a textbook geared more toward other therapists, but if you’re serious about learning Intimacy from the Inside Out I recommend it.
